FOCUS ON… THE LAUNCH OF THE 2021 ALPINE ESPORTS TEAM SEASON

1m5gjbxe96-phpnrjgphIn early April, Alpine launched its first virtual race team in partnership with Simracing expert Race Clutch.

Esports is a rapidly growing and popular dicipline for video game fans around the world. In 2019, Esports gathered more than 450 million viewers for all games combined, with a forecast of nearly 646 million viewers by 2023.
The market is growing by 9% every year and the number of fans of these virtual sports is increasing.

Represented by Nicolas Longuet and Fabrizio Donoso, Alpine Esports Team will attempt to reach the top of the F1 Esports Pro-Series rankings, starting in September 2021. Broadcasted in more than 30 countries around the world, this competition brings together 10 teams from F1 for a cash prize of 750 000$. For this new season, the two drivers are backed up by a reserve driver and are supervised by Richard Arnaud, Team Director, two race engineers and a data engineer.

Based in Limoges, Alpine Esports Team is committed to performance. Thanks to the know-how of the Alpine F1 Team, the Esports Team follows the same tracks in order to be able to shine in the competition: the pilots engage themselves daily in trainings lasting 6 to 8 hours and their diet is subjected to a specific regime worthy of the greatest sportsmen.

DID YOU KNOW?

“Alpine Ladies drives at Le Mans”

In 1975, Alpine celebrated its return to Le Mans after a few years break. That year, it celebrated the “Year of the woman” and entrusted the V6 2-litre A441C to the Italian Lella Lombardi and the French lady driver Marie-Claude Beaumont. The crew was not very successful at Le Mans but that same year, Lella Lombardi made history at the F1 Spain Grand Prix where she finished P6 thus becoming the only woman to be classified/ranked in the F1 world championship.

“Wood in the WEC cars”

Packed with electronics, high technologies and materials, prototypes that race in the World Endurance Championship have a wooden part hidden under the chassis. Called Jabroc, the wood used is a composite, a bit like plywood, which is manufactured at very high pressure and temperature. Initially, this wood was used to make aircraft propellers during the Second World War (Spitfire in particular). This wood is half as strong as steel but weighs only 20% of steel.

The purpose of this wear part is to allow the stewards to measure the car's ground clearance after the race. Indeed, from a regulatory point of view, the smallest vertical distance between the ground and the lowest part of the floor of the car must have a minimum value. The lower the car is set, the more the wooden board will rub and wear, especially in those parts of the circuit where the flatness is not perfect.

At the end of each FIA WEC championship race, the thickness of the wood plank of the prototypes must not have decreased by more than 5 mm.
